Her personal work includes character-driven documentaries about social struggles, the environment and justice in South America, the UK and India, which have been broadcast on television and screened at festivals worldwide.

Sonum has shot and directed a number of documentaries, fiction and promos in the UK, Russia, Cuba and India. Having initially read Spanish and Russian at Cambridge University, she then studied film at the renowned Cuban film school EICTV and went on to complete a Masters in Cinematography at METĀ Film School. SonumĀ has a passion for justice, and is particularly drawn to this theme when making films. Her personal work include films about identity, migration and social justice, which have been successful at film festivals worldwide.
